The photograph depicting serial killer Myra Hindley with her dog, Puppet, stands as a chilling testament to the darkness that lurked within her. In the wake of her arrest, Hindley adamantly withheld information about the whereabouts of her young victims' bodies.

This particular image captures a moment on Saddleworth Moor, with Hindley and Puppet positioned above the shallow grave of one of her victims. In an effort to establish the photograph's timeline, authorities resorted to an unsettling method: administering anesthesia to Puppet for a dental x-ray to determine the dog's age.

Tragically, Puppet did not survive the procedure. In a disturbing contrast to her lack of remorse for her victims, Hindley was devastated by the loss of her beloved pet. Her poignant words, "I feel as though my heart's been torn to pieces. I don't think anything could hurt me more than this had," reveal a stark and troubling perspective on her capacity for empathy and compassion.
