For instance, in my state of Missouri, we always execute at midnight. The reason for this is that the state is given a 24 hour window in which to execute any prisoner. The execution must happen within that window. In an abundance of caution, they do that execution immediately at the beginning of the window, in case something happens which causes a delay. OP isn't wrong. At least not entirely. Usually the condemned expires between 7 and 10 PM just because of how long everything takes. I'm kind of hoping that someone with a bit more insight might show up because I am interested to know why they start when they do, and not early in the morning, which would make more sense to me.
